At the conference, we raised fundamental questions typically related to the development possibilities of attic spaces in heritage buildings, primarily focusing on the 'opportunity or constraint' dilemma.

The conference provided an opportunity to compare and discuss domestic and international practices regarding development opportunities and limitations, and the current and potential roles of public participation. The event's invitees included architects, urban planners, developers, contractors, interior designers, heritage conservation experts, along with chief architects from districts and sector decision-makers.

The first session of the conference described the situation in Budapest, seeking the obstacles to making the Budapest rooftop landscape livable with contemporary architectural tools. The presenters included Éva Beleznay, acting chief architect, Dr. Tamás Mezős, president of KÖH, architects Bálint Nagy and Péter Nagy, developer György Losonci on behalf of LoftHome, district chief architect Zoltán Cselovszki from the fifth district, and Miklós Okrutay also from KÖH. The second session was intended to review Vienna's roof development policy, bringing ample and surprisingly diverse examples presented by renowned architects such as Rüdiger Lainer, then from the Squid office Gundolf Leitner and Peter Raneburger, Axel Linemayr (Pool Architekten), and Georg Driendl. Ute Georgeacopol-Winischhofer (docomomo) presented early attempts in her retrospective.
