Concrete Spring
KÉK's event series titled Betontavasz showcased the architectural possibilities inherent in concrete and the extraordinary versatility exhibited in the shaping of concrete as a material.
The series opened with the Exposed Concrete Symposium, where we explored the topic of exposed concrete from design to execution with the help of renowned domestic and foreign speakers and architects. For the occasion of Betontavasz, Urban Walks had a special edition: we organized site visits to the structural-ready stations of Metro Line 4, where the defining material of the interior spaces is exposed concrete. On another occasion, participants could visit the Budafok water tower building; the impressive structure of the building is also based on the architectural application of concrete. Within the event series, the Film Club featured concrete-themed surprise films, while the TEXTURE exhibition provided a stunning selection from the best of contemporary exposed concrete architecture. Buildings by Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Alvaro Siza, and Ben van Berkel were presented, focusing on concrete and the various architectural approaches related to it. Our event series Concrete Spring concluded with a special edition of the popular Pecha Kucha Night Budapest.
