Since 2007, the mission of the Budapest Architecture Film Festival has been to create a dialogue between film and architecture, both as inspiration and as a medium, as well as film focusing on architecture and the city as a theme.
The key motifs of the screened films are the city, urban life, and the built environment, but every year a different theme comes to the forefront. In addition to showcasing certain architects and buildings, the Film Days have explored topics such as abandoned spaces, depopulating cities, architectural utopias, the relationship between architecture and politics, and, for example, the interaction between movement and space, the human body and the built environment. A special section was dedicated to areas of design outside of architecture, and a Central European architectural film selection was put together in collaboration with several partner organizations from the region. Each year, the film screenings are accompanied by associated events: discussions, urban walks, and photo exhibitions.
