The Lakatlan programme was launched by KÉK – Contemporary Architecture Centre in 2012 with the aim of finding innovative, community-driven solutions for the utilisation of underused properties in Budapest and other cities. The programme continues to be an active participant in the local urban revitalisation discourse, focusing on creating social value and a liveable urban environment.
The Aim of the Programme
The goal of Lakatlan is to connect initiatives serving community, social, or cultural purposes with open-minded property owners who would like to fill their vacant spaces with meaningful, socially beneficial functions.
The programme toolkit includes:
consultation and facilitation
property mediation and search
negotiation and contract support
communication and organisational development assistance
involvement in renovations as needed
Knowledge sharing and method development
Lakatlan contributes to the rethinking of urban property utilisation not just in practical terms but also theoretically. Workshops, lectures, and discussions organised with the involvement of domestic and international experts help explore best practices, possible methodologies, and regulatory issues in the field.
Vision
Lakatlan's long-term vision is a city where resources are continuously renewed and vacant properties are given meaningful, socially useful functions. It supports the creation of an urban ecosystem where initiatives and infrastructure find each other, enabling value-creating projects to operate sustainably in the long term.
