Felemelni a függönyt

The Exhibition, realised as a partner event of La Biennale di Venezia - 14th International Architecture Exhibition, was created through collaboration between organisations from five countries. In this context, Hungary participated in the biennale for the first time outside of its national pavilion.

The role of Central Europe in the history of modernism, which spread worldwide after the Second World War, remains largely known as a marginal phenomenon to this day, largely due to the region's long-term isolation from Western professional discourses. This situation is further reinforced by the architectural histories of the former socialist countries, which primarily focus on national frameworks.

The exhibition approaches the pivotal processes that shaped Central European modernity from a new perspective. Its primary aim is to present connections that transcend borders and disciplines, offering a new, networked interpretation of modern architecture.

Focusing on the post-war period, yet reaching back to the end of the Monarchy and forward to the present era, the exhibition showcases individual case studies organised into six themes. These include individuals, institutions, events, competitions, and other players that have fostered interactions both within and far beyond the countries of the region. Through these, the architecture of Central Europe can be reconnected with the global currents of modernism.

The exhibition received significant international media attention. Following the Venice Biennale, it will be displayed in 2015-2016 in Vienna, Belgrade, Zagreb, Budapest, Prague, Brussels, Warsaw, and several other European cities.

The exhibition also marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration, within which a series of publications will be made available over the coming years, featuring significant source materials on architecture and professional history of the region, as well as ongoing research in the field. The series continues to focus on networked relationships and the migration of knowledge.
