CUP 4 Creativity
The CUP 4 Creativity project was realised with the support of the European Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) programme, which encourages the trial of innovative, untested solutions to address urban challenges. The programme provides an opportunity for city councils and their local partners to respond with new, experimental methods to complex issues such as community alienation, cultural access, or the local role of the creative industries.
The project was implemented by a consortium led by the Municipality of District XI (Újbuda) in Budapest, which submitted its application in the autumn of 2019 under the title "Cultural Urban Platform". The project was one of 13 selected initiatives to receive support from more than 180 EU applications. The programme's focus area: culture and cultural heritage.
Project Objective
The goal of CUP 4 Creativity is to reduce digital isolation and revive adult creativity through Újbuda's cultural resources. The project aimed to develop an urban platform that simultaneously encourages cultural participation, strengthens the identity of local communities, and creates new entry points to the district's cultural ecosystem. The long-term objective is to strengthen a creative-cultural community that participates in Újbuda's cultural life not only as consumers but also as creators.
The Role of KÉK
KÉK – Contemporary Architecture Centre participated as a project partner in the implementation of CUP 4 Creativity. Its role involved mapping cultural and creative industry stakeholders in District XI, examining their connection points and networks, and identifying their local embeddedness and potential for cooperation.
The research conducted by KÉK not only recorded the current stakeholder landscape but also produced analyses, maps, and data visualisations to support the future directions of development. The result is a geo-located, relational database that extends beyond the scope of the project: it is utilizable for community development and urban policy decision-making, as well as for launching new local collaborations.
The project was implemented between 2020 and 2023.
