InclusiveCity

How can our cities become more inclusive and liveable for all their residents?

How can the voices of hard-to-reach, vulnerable social groups be amplified in urban planning?

How can we develop urban areas in a way that the transformed spaces truly serve the local inhabitants, instead of attracting tourists or wealthier social groups?

We are seeking answers to these questions through the three-year InclusiveCity project, in collaboration with 15 partner organisations across five European cities - Vienna, Budapest, Rome, Rotterdam, and Oslo. We are working with the 15-minute city approach, where essential services and institutions for daily life, such as workplaces, shops, healthcare, educational and cultural institutions, are accessible within a 15-minute walk. The project focuses on transforming public spaces, supporting community collaborations, and developing methodologies that other cities can use to engage a wide range of social groups.

Népszínház Street is located in one of the city's most exciting neighbourhoods, home to a diverse range of nationalities and cultures that meet and blend. During the project, we work with residents and in collaboration with local civil organisations and businesses using placemaking tools. We prepare community events and smaller physical interventions, with a particular focus on reimagining the possibilities inherent in the former Népszínház Street Post Office and organising forums that help network the key players shaping the life of the street.

In spring 2026, the Nyitva! festival will contribute to leasing the street's vacant commercial spaces in ways that benefit the community's interests. Within the framework of the Nyitva! festival, we support initiatives that improve social cohesion on the street and contribute to stimulating the local economy. We connect them with property owners who want to revitalise their street-facing premises with the involvement and energies of the community. Our goal is to facilitate mutually beneficial collaborations for the sustainable development of Népszínház Street.
