ModernLibrary
The ModernTéka project was launched in 2024 under the auspices of the Contemporary Architecture Centre (KÉK), initiated by the FBIS Architectural Studio. The project's aim is to provide publicly accessible, reliable information about late modern architectural heritage, publishing these in a user-friendly, continuously updated database, which can serve as a valuable source of information not only for professionals but also for interested lay audiences.
We intend for the database to play an important role in enabling the discovery of architectural works from a period currently under-researched and surrounded by many contradictions and stereotypes, thus initiating their evaluation. In recent years, numerous international studies, publications, and databases have dealt with late modern heritage – ModernTéka intends to synthesise these and also conduct and publish research on new, less well-known buildings.
Our long-term goal is to integrate these findings into the international discourse and place Hungarian late modern architecture within the East European and pan-European context. As part of the New European Bauhaus initiative, KÉK has also joined the European Triennial of Modernism (ETOM) NEB Lab work, aimed at supporting international collaborations, best practices, research, and capacity building.
